It has been quite a while since I last updated this blog but that doesn't mean I've given up on it. It's just that life and all tends to get in the way for me from time to time.

So, ready to try your hands at baking with wild yeast? You can get some real good results with wild yeast - the bread is very tasty and, more importantly, not too dry and crumbly on the inside. And the best part is that no kneading is required, all you need is time and patience.

As mentioned in my journal the other day, I've found a delicious recipe for ice cream which, of course, I had to try out myself. It's ridiculously easy to make and it becomes very difficult to keep your hands and fingers from it :)

Herring salad in all its regional variations is very popular in Northern Europe in general, and in Scandinavia in particular. Herring is an oily fish "found in the shallow, temperate waters of the North Pacific and the North Atlantic oceans, including the Baltic Sea" (Source: Wikipedia).

Here in Sweden, herring is truly a way of life, especially around holidays and many people have their own specialties and secret recipes. Here is one of my own favorite recipes; it's simple, but oh, so good.

Nettle soup

Now that spring has finally arrived, the plants and trees have again begun to sprout and grow and turn a vibrant green color. This is often celebrated in Sweden with nettle soup as nettles are one of the earlier signs of spring and chock full of vitamins and minerals.

Last weekend me and [personal profile] t_fischer went for a walk and brought back some nettles with us -- and turned them into fantastic, spring-y tasting soup.
